Emmanuel Eku

Emmanuel is from the village of Yamransa in the Central region of Ghana and was raised in an important traditional drumming family. Eku, who has been drumming for over twenty years, has toured the world as a Master Drummer with the Ghana National Dance Ensemble. He was also a member of the Royal African Cultural Group in Hartford, Connecticut. Eku is the Master and Lead Drummer for "Atimevu Drum and Dance Ensemble" in Madison WI.

Mohammed Alidu
Drummer/Singer
Mohammed grew up in the Dagoma Village in Northern Ghana. The Dagoma village is known for developing the Talking Drum. From an early age he learned how to build and play the Talking Drum. For over five years Alidu expressed his amazing talents as a drummer with the Ghana Dance Ensemble. Alidu joins the festival from London where he is now master drummer with Adzido, a West Africa Dance Company.

Saeed Abbas
Drummer/Singer
Saeed performed with the Ghana Dance Ensemble and currently teaches music at schools and colleges in Washington State. He also grew up in the Dagoma Village in Northern Ghana where he started playing the Talking Drum at a very early age.

Charles Ayi Armah
Drummer/Singer
At the age of 8, Charles could play almost all of the traditional drums of his ethnic group, the Ga people of Accra. Therefore, it was no surprise when he enlisted in the National Dance Company of Ghana in 1993 and within 2 years rose to become an Assistant Master Drummer. As one of two Master Drummers in the company, he could play all the leading drums of musical forms from each region within Ghana. Since 1993, his work with that company has taken him to England, France, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, S. Korea and the United States. Charles was featured on the cermonial Fontomfrom drums in a performance for President Clinton during hte Presiden'ts visit to Ghana in 1998. He joined Obo Addy and Homowo's Okropong three years ago.
