In Ghana, people have gathered under the Baobao Tree to sing, dance, drum, and tell stories for as long as anyone can remember. This multi-generational experience has been a cornerstone of Ghanaian community.
Adjei Abankwah (co-producer and director of the BaoBao Festival, co-founder of Enkambum, and former principal dancer with the Ghana Dance Ensemble) brought this tradition to the Boulder/Denver area for the first time in February 2004. Each festival has featured a dozen drummers and dancers formerly with the Ghana Dance Ensemble (the national dance company of Ghana, West Africa) now living in the United States and Great Britain as well as local modern and Middle Eastern dancers.
The 2008 festival will include performances and classes in the Denver/Boulder area. See the Schedule for details.
